In the case of Alzheimer’s, Big Pharma has failed miserably as with other brain diseases. It is claimed that the drugs of the large pharmaceutical industry have failed up to 99% in its effectiveness to combat Alzheimer’s, a devastating disease that affects more than 40 million people in the world.

And in the next 30 years, this number is expected to increase to more than 130 million.

But to prevent and fight Alzheimer’s, there are good news from the side of nature.

The journal Neurology states that drinking ½ glass of orange juice daily protects your brain and prevents Alzheimer’s disease better than any pharmacy medication.

According to the magazine, you can reduce the risk of Alzheimer’s disease by up to 50%, only by drinking ½ glass of orange juice each day.

For more than 20 years, researchers followed 28,000 middle-aged males to observe the effect of fruits and vegetables on their cognitive function. Every 4 years they were asked how often they ate fruits and vegetables and their memory capacity was evaluated.

They found that men who consumed more fruits and vegetables in the previous 2 decades were 17% less likely to suffer from moderate memory loss and up to 34% less likely to suffer a large loss of brain capacity.

However, men who regularly drank half a glass of orange juice a day, halved the chances of having memory difficulties.

There is a unique type of brain cells called glial cells that are remarkably supported by oranges.

For a long time scientists have known of the existence of these glial cells that refine and stimulate brain cells and improve the actions of neurons that allow a better concentration and a more precise and fast brain.

Initially it was thought that these special cells were only a support for the neurons, now it is known that their function goes further.

The lack of a glial cell called oligodendrocytes causes messages to travel through the brain at a speed about 30 times slower than normal.

But these special cells also fulfill other important functions such as eliminating toxic elements of the brain every night. During sleep the cells are reduced by up to 60%.

There is a group of compounds called flavonoids that occur naturally in plants and that are antioxidants that eliminate free radicals which play an important role in the deterioration of memory and generate slower thinking. And oranges are rich in flavonoids and for this reason they are so effective in protecting the brain.

Different studies show that these antioxidant flavonoids play an important role in interrupting the development of amyloid plaques and on the other hand increase the number of connections between neurons.

Flavonoids are so important that in 2012 researchers at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital discovered that people with regular flavonoid consumption delayed their memory deterioration by up to two years.

But if you want to prevent Alzheimer’s disease risk without resorting to the orange’s flavonoids, there are other flavonoids that you can turn to. For example

Lutein A flavoniod that relieves depression and improves memory and almost completely protects glial cells from damage and inflammation of free radicals

Foods rich in lutein are artichokes, celery, parsley, sage, beetroot and basil.

Apigenin This flavonoid improves learning and stimulates memory capacity and also protects against Alzheimer’s. It also increases the blood flow, preserves the integrity of brain cells, improves brain chemical communication and decreases the damage of free radicals.

Are important sources of apigenin, tomatoes. Parsley, artichokes, basil, mint and celery.

Morin Although little known, this flavonoid also prevents Alzheimer’s and protects neurons, but at the same time eliminates free radicals.

Important source of morin are dried fruits and especially Chinese white mulberry.
