Is breakfast the main meal of the day?

About breakfast there is a saying millennium: "Eat breakfast like a King, lunch like a Prince and dinner like a Beggar"; perhaps influenced by this popular wisdom, our mothers and grandmothers always repeated that breakfast was the main meal of the day.

But now there is a great discussion about the veracity of this statement and some studies indicate that does not have the importance we assign and that importance is quite questionable.

A specialist says, it is simply a meal and there is no greater benefit in having breakfast. Others say that the importance basically depends on your goals, your lifestyle and sense of appetite.

Others, like Lofton, says that eating breakfast can help you lose weight because people who skip breakfast are more hungry in the afternoon and near bedtime and this may mean that the calories of the night are partially burned and then they stored as fat.

The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition claims that men who ate breakfast had a lower risk of diabetes type 2  Meanwhile Mekary says this meal is highly beneficial to health.

St. Pierre says there is no reliable evidence that skipping breakfast is important for the elderly and children at risk of malnutrition.

Opinions are divided and there are opinions in favor and against taking or not breakfast.

But I will present my personal experience and my deductions, following common sense.

I faithfully follow the advice of my mother that it is important to take a sustained and healthy breakfast. And I follow it for several reasons.

First, after 7 – 8  hours of sleep and fasting, my stomach is empty and although I am not hungry if I do not take breakfast, it is almost certain that over time I develop gastritis and ulcers.

Second, as well as a vehicle is charged with fuel, so the car can perform during the day, my reasoning is that if I eat a nutritious and healthy meal, I will recharge my body to face the tasks of the day. A good breakfast, bring me 20 to 25% of calories they will be converted into energy that I will use during the day.

I try my breakfasts have essential nutrients: lots of fiber to prevent constipation, some experts say that more than 95% of the disease is caused by constipation. And this makes sense because if you do not have a clean colon, toxins and rots poisoned the bloodstream and cause disease.

Fruits and vegetables varied to provide vitamins and minerals; essential oils and antioxidants to boost the immune system and slow the wear "telomeres"  that control the aging process.

And naturally proteins. I prepare what I call my "super breakfast" full of vitamins, minerals, polyphenols, antioxidants, fiber, protein, etc.

Many nutritionists say we should not eat foods that are not compatible (mix sweet with acid for example) but I mix all trying to cover a wider range of nutrients and valuable elements for my health.

Let's review my breakfast today:

A glass of juice
A cup of chocolate with oats and cinnamon
And two whole-grain pieces of bread with fat-free cheese
.

Juice-based: portion of black grapes (the seeds and skin contain proanthocyanidins and resveratrol, super antioxidants 50 times more potent than vitamin C and 20 more than vitamin E, a branch of celery to detoxify; orange juice; a piece of melon, a slice of pineapple, a few spinach leaves, a bit of saffron (to improve eyesight), 2 tablespoons of flaxseed rich in oil Omega 3 and fiber for constipation (I evacuated twice daily), a spoonful of pollen that provides all amino acids and vitamins and is one of the world's most complete food. I pulverize everything well in my Nutribullet. Chocolate and cinnamon are super antioxidants.

And every day I vary, over the months and years, but the base is black grapes, orange, apple, and carrot.

For me, breakfast is the most important meal, my lunch is normal and my dinner very light.

I judge by the results:

I am 73 years old and I enjoy vibrant health. I work 17 hours a day, jog 3 times a week, sleep 6 -7 hours, drink 2 liters of water, my weight is ideal, I do not suffer constipation and my health values (cholesterol, glucose, pressure, etc.) are all normal, even my PSA is normal (0.28)

But above all, I thank God that keeps me strong and healthy and the family that loves me and cares for me.
