Reasons to use ginger in cancer treatment

Ginger, known as kion in Spanish language is pungent, spicy and aromatic flavor; native to Asia, is currently available in any market in the world, mainly to improve the flavor of salads, fruits and vegetables.

The Chinese have used ginger for over 2,000 years as a remedy to relieve stomach pain, diarrhea and nausea.

But the latest study published in the journal PLoS reveals that ginger contains a natural compound that kills cancer cells with 10,000 times more effectively than chemotherapy drugs used to kill cancer  cells.

The component called 6-shogaol, has the incomparable advantage of selectively kill only malignant cancer cells and leaves healthy cells intact. As is known in oppositely drugs used for chemotherapy eliminate either sick and healthy cells, which causes weakness and increased vulnerability of the patient, which in many cases die more by the side effects of drugs used for chemotherapy, rather than by the same cancer.

Ginger kills mother cells, responsible for up to 90% of deaths caused by cancer

Although cancer mother cells represent less than 1% of cancer in any tumor, they are able to replicate and increase indefinitely causing new tumors in various parts of the body, ie metastasize and are responsible for 90% cancer deaths. The seriousness of this situation is that this small number of mother cancer cells are impenetrable to most chemotherapy drugs and even uses new or experimental drugs.

Because, some these cancers cells are removed by surgery or eliminated by chemotherapy, reappear and restarting the cancer process

Ginger kills cancer cells of different form

6-shogaol component of ginger arrives and kills mother cells in different ways and does so by altering the cell cycle and increasing the death of cancer cells by poisoning or cytotoxicity and therefore inhibits the formation of tumors

Ginger compared with taxol, a chemotherapy drug usually used to combat cancer, resulted in better performance than the drug in the case of cells of one-dimensional cancer and still on cell spheroid model or three-dimensional model. Even when taxol was increased by 10,000 times was not as effective as the component  6-shogaol of ginger. Since there are very few chemotherapeutic compounds capable of being effective against mother  cells of cancer, the announcement that the ginger 6-shogaol has encouraging results against this type of cells, opens a new possibility to beat cancer.
